Biotechnological/regenerative therapies for joint, tendon sheath and tendon problems

Musculoskeletal damage such as joint inflammation (arthritis/osteoarthritis) and tendon injuries, as well as ligament damage, play a very significant role in orthopaedic conditions and thus the cause of lameness.

For a long time, therapies mainly involved medications such as glucocorticoids (cortisone) and hyaluronic acid („joint lubricant“), which can inhibit inflammation but are of little effectiveness, especially in regeneration and tissue renewal.

For 10 years now, modern biotechnological therapies from human medicine have also found their way into equine medicine. The objective is to use the body's own regenerative substances, activate them, and supply them to the body in concentrated form where inflammation is to be inhibited and/or a defect is to be healed. From the horse's blood, such endogenous anti-inflammatory and regeneration-promoting proteins (cytokines) can now be obtained.

This involves the processing of the animal's own blood in the laboratory using various technical methods. Here, important substances present in the blood in only small quantities, such as growth factors, are concentrated using special procedures and filled into sterile syringes in an amount suitable for injection.

The products thus obtained are successfully used primarily in the therapy of tendon, ligament, and joint diseases. Due to their native structure, they offer particular advantages in the healing of even serious defects.
